Rain for Mica & Lexie

Rain, rain. That is all we are getting! One day of sun, 2 to 3 days of rain. It’s almost February and we have not had any fun snow!!! This time last year we had had at least 2 snow woods walks in this

This year nothing!! Someone please send snow to SE Ohio. We are so sick of rain !
Yesterday evening we spent most of our time standing outside in the rain.
Lexie was so frustrated she started begging Dad to walk in rain. Dad said it’s pouring outside but Lexie would not give up. She said I’m soaked already

Dad was totally dry but finally decided to let her walk. It was pouring, Dad told Lexie he was getting soaked but she didn’t seem to mind!? Lexie took about a 20 minute walk just to see if her friends were out but found no one. After getting home Lexie curled up contentedly on her bed to dry & go to sleep.
Dad however had coat, jeans, socks, etc. and himself to get dried off
We really need some snow!!!

*Mica chose not to walk, but to just curl up and dry off

Mica’s Woods Walk

While Lexie was taking a car ride with Mom, Dad decided to take me on my first woods walk in weeks. Here we are heading for the woods!

I do not like to go as well without Mom and Lexie, but I love the walks and am not going to turn Dad down.
When we go alone, I do not have to worry about where anyone else wants to go. I don’t have to make sure that the others are OK, I can just take off the direction I want to go and Dad will follow. The only real rule is that I have to be in sight at all times.
So since Dad doesn’t blog and Mom wasn’t on the walk we will have more pictures than thoughts.
Here we go,

After being cooped up with Lexie’s lack of play walks, etc. I just needed some good exercise and open space

Woods were empty and ready to explore! Every once in a while I would stop and look around to see if Mom
& Lexie had decided to come. Still just me and dad.

Let’s see what else is here?

That tree just broke!! And look up there, someone is building a little bridge. Wonder where that goes, guess we’ll have to find out when Mom & Lexie are with us!?

Well I think it’s time for a quick swim before heading home.

Ok Dad come on its time to go home!

We worked are way back up to our home and saw Lexie sitting there waiting for us

Hopefully next time we all will walk together.

Lexie Day Out

Hi as we know I am Lexie! I have not been allowed to do many things since I started limping 3 weeks ago. So far it is not getting better. I’m not sure what the next step is. The X-rays showed nothing wrong with bones, no burs, fractures, no arthritis or tumors or cysts and joints were all just right!

BTW this is the toy I chew on when I get bored and frustrated. I can chew as hard as I want and it always survives

So since I have had limited activities for 3 weeks, Mom took me with her for a car ride. I love to ride in the car!! I don’t care where we go or even if we don’t get out, I just love to go. Mom got out her car and I jumped in. She started it up, put the window down and we were ready to go.

While we were out, Mom stopped to get a prescription. Since they have an outside window Mom was where I could see her all the time ( I have to watch to make sure she is Ok). While we were there 4 people asked Mom what kind of dog I was and they came over to pet me. They told me how beautiful I was and gave me a lot of attention. Yes, I love attention and for people to tell me I am beautiful (Ok I’m vain!). We had a really great ride and a lot of fun. We made it home in time for dinner:-)

Snow Day for Mica

Hi, if you remember I’m Mica and this is my first snow day this winter.

Usually I would be having a woods walk during Dad’s time off and our first snow day, but sister Lexie can’t come right now. Lexie has been limping for the last two weeks. The medicine the doctor put her on has not helped so she goes back to the Vet Tuesday for X-rays. So here I sit looking down the street to see if there is anyone out to play with me!

I really love snow and have been waiting as patiently as possible for the first snow. When Dad opened the door to go out this morning there it was on the ground and more falling from the sky. I got so excited, I jumped straight up in the air. Then started just running and running everywhere to smell and eat all I could. Now it is afternoon and still there is no one out to play with:(
I really hope this evening when Dad gets home I can have a long walk and get to see all the snow in the neighborhood. Maybe someone will be out to play with me. I don’t understand, we have this beautiful cold weather AND snow; you’d think all the dogs would be out wanting to play!!! So maybe I will see someone on my walk? I hope Lexie feels better really soon (tomorrow) so I can have my playmate back:)

Almost Winter Part 2

Hello again, we have finished our swim and Mom says we are going to a totally new spot. Before we leave the falls we want to show you something brand new. Here on the left you will see a little cave that has never been here before.

We looked and smelled and can not find anything in there. We don’t know who made this new cave, do you have any ideas? I guess we will have to investigate further next time.
To leave the falls we have to climb a slippery hill. My humans want me to tell you the hill can be a little dangerous.

The hill is made up of mud and a lot of rocks. Most of the rocks are loose so you have to be careful to find stable rocks to step on. Otherwise you slip and fall, you can slip all the way to the bottom. Near the top are a couple trees you can grab to pull the last way up it is only hard for humans, we have 4 feet and can run up quite easily. We made it !! Here’s a look down from the top.

Ok we’re all here so lets go, Mom is telling Mica which way to go since we are going to someplace new.

Mom look a huge tree has fallen since last year. This tree is way too big to climb over even for Dad, but he is trying. Mom says we have to go under and she is going to show us where!

See that spot where the tree bows and leaves a space underneath that’s where Mom says we have to go under. Mom laid down on the ground and rolled under to make sure there would be enough space for us. Then Mom told us “under” so we got down and crawled under the tree, whew we all made it, yaa!!
Look here is more deep water where we can cool off and get a drink before moving on

Mom said the creek is running today so we are allowed to take drinks; if it is almost dry and stagnant we have to drink from our water bottle!!

Mom told us we can just continue down the creek for a while, so let’s see what’s down there…

Look here is another huge tree that has fallen this year. Luckily it fell over the creek so it is easy to just walk under.

As we go a little further we come upon a tremendous amount of trees that have fallen. In fact, I don’t think we can get around this block. Looks like someone just piled them all here in the middle of the creek. Wonder why someone would do that?!

This weather year has been very bad for many of the trees in our woods, so many came down. I hope this winter and spring are not as hard on the trees!!

we are going to stop here and explore for a while, so we will see you later when we continue on to another new place. Hope you have a good day:-)

Now it’s almost winter and all the leaves are on the ground. We think
This is a great time cause of all the smells under the leaves.

Ok enough digging, Mom says time to move on. Look ahead we will walk under the arch. Two trees fell and made an arch to walk under

Moving on and seeing what’s ahead, lots of times we see deer, but so far none today:(

Look over there, Mom found a red tree she loves to take pictures of fall colors!

And over here is the creek, time to get in and cool down, we love all the

On we go, but looks like one more detour for smells. There have been a lot of really good smells today, but we haven’t seen any other animals:(

Ok next stop the falls Mom always let’s us have a swim so we are going down and catch our swim. There seems to be a lot more water this time:-)

We’re going to be swimming for a while so take a break now and we will catch you again on the way on down the creek to a new area. Till next time have great walks

Embarrassing Dog Moment

@MyBrownNewfies Jen asked if we had any embarrassing dog (pet) moments. With my Landseer Lexie there have been many. Since she was six months she has been able to pull a truck ( a slight exaggeration). I have been drug down streets, hills, but we will leave that for a later time.
Lexie like most dogs likes to greet all the dogs she sees. Lexie would never hurt anyone or anything (except maybe me lol) . The problem comes when she (138 lb) dog runs over to greet a smaller dog. Most owners and dogs are of course very cautious. Some very small dogs are frightened.
Lexie can look intimidating. We were on the way to the vet, usually John & I go together. I check out the inside and he walks Lexie on the outside. I check that there are no dogs or cats out for her to greet. Anyway this day I had to go alone. I stood outside and checked inside there we no other animals out. *let me state that since she is now 5 yrs. she is very good on a leash and picks up the signals easily* so we have verified the inside is empty. I open the door to enter and what Lexie saw and I didn’t caught me off guard. As I had entered a door on the right had opened and a small dog and owner had come out. Since I thought it was empty I was not paying attention or holding on tight.
Lexie gave a hard yank trot to the right to greet the dog and I went down. Right there in the vets office I am on the floor looking up at vet, techs, etc. luckily they all know Lexie, the vet took her leash from me and helped me up. I had a skinned knee but no harm done to anyone. We went in our room and got our exam & shots and all was fine. Except how embarrassed I had been on the vet floor looking up at everyone:(
Oh well with my Lexie there will always be something. Lol This is Lexie.

Falls Walk Part 2

When we left you we were on our way
to the big falls hopefully to get to swim. Let’s start our walk from here

Remember there was not much water in the creek. Looks like there is something good to smell over here in the grass so we’ll take a short stop

These rocks are very hard to walk on and look Mom is way behind she must be taking pictures.

Finally more water to cool off and rest our feet. I think we are going to have to go back to the path for a little while to get to our falls.

Why don’t you continue your walk in the creek.

Here we are at the top of the falls we’ll grab a quick drink before starting down the little hill to the pool at the bottom of the falls.

Ok here we are we made it to the big falls, the pond at the bottom is where we get to swim.

We are going to swim and cool off for little while, why don’t you find a nice rock and sit down

That felt so good but we are really getting tired. Time to start up the big hill toward home.

Before we leave let’s look at a picture of the falls with a lot more water.

Ok home we go it’s a long walk up and sometimes Mom will need to sit down and rest, hope she can make it all the way today!

Whew here we are, we all made it back. Dad is going to spray us off to cool us down and get the dirt off. He uses a small pool for this,

Lexie and Mica walk to Falls

As you can see our house backs up to a beautiful woods,

the woods is all green space and goes on for miles.

If you look just left of center you will see a

hole where a path starts. The paths are all

downhill, but wind around through the woods

The spring and fall walks are the prettiest,

summer the growth is too high to see much.

There are several paths all leading to a different location

in the creek or you can just go to the creek and walk

along the rocks as we did Sunday, that way you get

to see several falls and beautiful scenery.

Sunday we headed left straight for the triple

falls, it had rained all week and we were

expecting a lot of water.

now just a little further

there it is we can see it just up ahead but

it looks like most of the water has already

run down stream to the Little Miami River.

Yah we made it but it doesn’t have very much

water so no swimming we were hoping it would

look like the last time we played here, here is a

picture of how it looks with a lot of water

O well we can run an splash to cool off for a little

while then maybe we can go find some deeper water.

Yah Mom and Dad said we can go on downstream to

big falls where we can swim so lets go.

Ok so off we go, maybe we will see you later
